independent candidate after UML denies ticket

Popular folk singer Komal Oli says she will file nomination as an independent candidate for the House of Representatives elections from Dang Constituency 3 as the party she is affiliated to, CPN-UML, denied the official ticket to her.
With a hope of a chance to contest the polls, Oli had recently defected the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and joined the CPN-UML last month. The party’s district committee had also recommended her name for the candidature.
“I was a central member in the RPP, but joined the UML after it assured me the ticket either in the first-past-the-post system or in the proportional representation,” Oli says, “But, Shankar Pokhrel [UML Standing Committee member] called me yesterday to say he could not. Now, I will be an independent candidate.”
Oli was a popular newsreader at Radio Nepal till last year when she left the prestigious job to join the Kamal Thapa-led Hindu nationalist party.
