Police on Friday filed a case against 11 persons including four Chinese nationals who are accused of smuggling 88 kg gold from Tibet to Kathmandu.
Police on September 4 had arrested a man in possession of 88 kg yellow metal from Chhetrapati of Kathmandu. It was the biggest gold haul ever made in Nepal.
The Metropolitan Police Range says the case has been filed against the suspects demanding that they repay the claimed amount of Rs 435.6 million as per the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.
If convicted the suspects also have to serve an imprisonment of five years.
The alleged Chinese nationals are still absconding.
Police say four other Chinese nationals were also involved in the smuggling, but they are yet to be identified. The Range will file another case against them after identification.
